Recruitment Procedures and Status of Adjunct Faculty

Adjunct faculty covered by Decree 87-889 fall into two categories: adjunct instructors and temporary adjunct staff.

Temporary Lecturers
Temporary lecturers are individuals selected for their expertise in a particular field who also hold a primary professional occupation.

Recruited individuals must meet the following two conditions:

  • be under 67 years of age,
  • have a primary occupation, which may consist of:
    • managing a business,
    • salaried employment totaling at least 900 hours per year (at least 300 hours for teaching positions),
    • self-employment (self-employed, sole proprietor), provided that the applicant can prove by any means that this activity provides a regular source of income.
       

Temporary contract employees
Applicants must meet one of the following two conditions:

• be enrolled in a postgraduate program
•    be receiving a retirement pension, an early retirement allowance, or be on end-of-career leave, provided that, at the time of leaving their position, they were engaged in a primary professional activity outside École Centrale de Lyon
•    They may only teach tutorials, seminars, or lab sessions, up to a limit of 96 hours for tutorials or 64 hours for doctoral students on contract.
 

Pay Rate

The current rate is €43.50 gross per hour of tutorials. All hours are paid as tutorial-equivalent hours.

Conversion rates (lectures, tutorials, lab sessions)

  • 1 hour of lecture is equivalent to 1.5 hours of tutorial equivalents
  • 1 hour of tutorial is equivalent to 1 hour of tutorial credit
  • 1 hour of practical work is equivalent to 2/3 hour of tutorial equivalent
